As the history of the Latino Medical Student Association, the original name of the National organization was the National Network of Latin American Medical Students (NNLAMS).
In 2008, the NNLAMS adopted the name Latino Medical Student Association taking on what historically was part of the West region’s identity. All regions at this time decided to adopt this name and the logo which the West region had.
In 2011, the LMSA National organization and it’s five regions decided to change the logo in the following ways:
Remove the caduceus for a more accurate depiction of the organization’s membership. This meant using the rod of Asclepius instead.
Adding five stars at the top of the logo which represents each region.
The logo keeps the tradition of the wings of an eagle which comes for the Farm Workers Movement which strongly identifies the West region’s roots.
